1 | NIT SRINAGAR (J&K)
From the Director’s Desk
It gives me immense pleasure to introduce National
Institute of Technology Srinagar as one of the Premier
Technical Institutes especially in the Northern Region
of the country. NIT Srinagar was established in 1960
and was one of the eighteen Regional Engineering
Colleges sponsored by the Govt. of India during the
2nd Five Year Plan. The Regional Engineering College,
Srinagar was subsequently upgraded to National
Institute of Technology Srinagar in July 2003. In the
same year, the institution was granted Deemed
University status with the approval of the University Grants Commission, All India
Council of Technical Education and the Government of India. On 15th August 2007, NIT
Srinagar became an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Bill passed by the
Parliament of India.
NIT Srinagar strongly believes in keeping up with the constantly evolving technological
domain of higher education. As such it has been a practice of the institute from the very
beginning to keep all the laboratories updated with modern and up to date equipment
and software. The institute has always been at par with the latest technological up-
gradations. NIT Srinagar boasts itself as having one of the latest, modern and high-tech
central research facilities. Some of the equipment present in our laboratories are unique
and currently not even available in some of the IITs of the Country. All the major
equipment and software owned by the institute are high tech and up to date with the
latest technological advancements.
NIT Srinagar being the Flagship Institute in the technical education of Jammu and
Kashmir region adheres to the responsibility of sharing these technical assets to all the
stakeholders. As such the accessibility of these equipment and software is easily available
to any member of the society in need of them.
I thank all my colleagues especially Dr Tahir Ahmad Wani (Asst. Prof. Dept of HSS) for
compiling all this valuable information in the form of this booklet.
Prof. Rakesh Sehgal
Director NIT Srinagar

High Performance Liquid
Chromatography (HPLC)
High-performance liquid chromatography
(HPLC; formerly referred to as high-pressure
liquid chromatography) is a technique in
analytical chemistry used to separate, identify,
and quantify each component in a mixture. It
relies on pumps to pass a pressurized liquid
solvent containing the sample mixture through a
column filled with a solid adsorbent material.
Each component in the sample interacts slightly
differently with the adsorbent material, causing
different flow rates for the different components
and leading to the separation of the components
as they flow out of the column.

Multi-Wave Pro Synthesis and
Digestion Instrument
Microwaves accelerate synthesis reactions.
The use of microwave heating improves the
homogeneity of the synthesis sludge, the
narrow particle size distribution, the
smaller size of the particles, and the
conversion compared with other methods
that do not use microwaves.
Compared to conventional reflux heating,
microwave heating in modern reactors
allows increasing yields while significantly
reducing reaction times down to a few
minutes.
Microwave synthesis is very inexpensive,
less time consuming and environmentally
benign technique for the fabrication of
various nanostructures.
This synthesis technique is very advanced
and new for the fabrication and
characterization of various biomedical
materials
Cost: 31.00 Lacs
Quantity: 1 No.
Furnace for Hydrothermal Synthesis and
Annealing Process
A conventional technique for the fabrication of
metal oxide/material nanostructures.
The reaction is performed in an apparatus
consisting of a steel pressure vessel called an
autoclave, in which reactants are supplied along
with water or other solvents. A temperature
gradient is maintained between the opposite ends
of the growth chamber for material synthesis.
This technique is the ability to create crystal
phases which are not stable at melting point.
While getting control over composition, this
technique can fabricate good quality
nanostructure materials
Cost: 3.00 Lacs
Quantity: 1 No.

UV-Vis Spectrophotometer
(Advanced)
UV-Vis-absorption spectroscopy is one of
the best methods for determination of
impurities in organic molecules. By
measuring the absorbance at specific
wavelength, the impurities can also be
detected using UV-Vis spectrometry.
UV-Vis-spectroscopy is useful in the
structure elucidation of organic molecules,
the presence or absence of unsaturation,
the presence of hetero atoms etc.

Scanning Electron Microscope (Hitachi S-
3600N)
High-resolution images captured by scanning
electron microscopy tend to be crisp, clear and
beautiful, making them a great tool for education as
well as scientific study.
Scanning electron microscopy can help businesses
involved in the development or manufacturing of
products and more about the composition and
topography of products and components.
Cost: 85.00 Lacs

X-Ray Diffraction
X-ray crystallography (XRC) is the
experimental science determining the
atomic and molecular structure of a crystal,
in which the crystalline structure causes a
beam of incident X-rays to diffract into many
specific directions. By measuring the angles
and intensities of these diffracted beams.
