WRMC was established by the Ministry of Education, Govt .of India in 1983 under new plan scheme for creation of infrastructure in the areas of emerging technology. The objectives of the Center are:
- To undertake work on specific technological problems of relevance and importance in Water Resources Management and to make fundamental contribution to the advancement of technology.
- To undertake Research and Development work of a high order by mobilizing inter- disciplinary and inter- institutional collaboration.
- To act as a resource center for the creation of knowledge and for the collection and dissemination of Information on the subject .
- To undertake research works in the field of Water Resources Engineering to meet the requirements of industry, Research and Development establishments, irrigation and other water resources management agencies.

Library Facilities:
Fair amount of literature on topics relating to Water Resources Engineering and other related topics is available in the main library of the College. Besides that a good collection of books, journals and reports is available in the library of Water Resources Management Centre. The Centre has available with it the necessary audio-visual facilities for the benefit of learners.
Computational facilities:
The Centre has also a Mini-computer Centre with necessary computational facilities . The following soft-wares are also available for the users:

Laboratory Facilities:

The Centre has available with it the facility of well equipped Fluid Mecahnics Laboratory which has been jointly developed with Civil Engineering Department of the Institute. The Centre has played a vital role in the upgradation of this Laboratory and has succeeded in bringing it to the level where it can successfully cater to the requirements of higher standard R&D works.
- Hydrobiology lab:
This Lab. has been set up under one of the MHRD sponsored projects and is at the verge of its completion. The lab. after its completion will be fully equipped with the latest water and sewage testing equipments.
- Hydrometeorological Observatory:
This observatory has been set –up under one more scheme of MHRD sponsored project and has been recently strengthen by procurement and installation of an Automatic Weather Station.

Environmental And Sustainability Studies Centre (ESSC) Developed under TEQIP-III This lab has been developed from funds obtained through TEQIP-III. All the equipment purchased has been installed in the Lab. MISSION :- The mission of this lab includes providing a platform for research, testing, teaching, data storage, case studies. The Lab will help all those related to the following sub branches:- 1. Air pollution 2. Water pollution 3. Noise Pollution 4. Professor Chair in Water Resources Engineering
A Chair Professor in Water Resources , entitled, Sheikhul Alam Sheikh Nuruddin Chair for Water Resources has been established by the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) in the Centre in 2008.
The main objective of the Chair is to carry out studies on water resources with special emphasis on assessment of effect of climate change particularly in Indus Basin.
Key Resources Centre for the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation
The Centre has been recently identified as the Key Resources Centre by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation Govt. of India . The main Objective of establishing the KRC is to Upgrade knowledge, skills and attitudes of the PHED engineers, and other stakeholders and Equip the trainees intellectually and professionally for carrying out their assigned works more effectively and efficiently.
Nodal Centre for Climate Change Studies under the Ministry of Water Resources, GOI
The Centre is one of the Nodal Centres for the Ministry of Water Resources GOI for Climate Change Studies, with reference to the Indus Basin and its tributaries.
