Content Contribution, Moderation & Approval (CMAP) Policy.


Content is contributed by authorized contributors in a consistent fashion to maintainuniformity and to bring in standardization. In order to present the content as per therequirement of the viewer, and to retrieve the relevant content efficiently, it is contributedthrough a Content Management System which is web-based. Once the content iscontributed levels and is role based. If the content is rejected at any level then it isreverted back to the it is approved and moderated prior to being published on thewebsite. The moderation is two originator of the content for modification.

Content Archival (CAP) Policy.


Each of the content components that are valid for a particular period of time is accompanied by a validity date. For some of the components the validity date may not be known i.e., the content is stated to be perpetual. Under no circumstances, any content is to be displayed on the portal after the validity date.

The Website is the face of the National Institute of technology Srinagar disseminating information and services. It is therefore required to keep the content on the website current and up-to-date and hence there is a need for a Content Review Policy. Review Policies are defined in various content elements. The complete website is reviewed on a yearly basis however the important sections of the website are based on the need.

  • Performance:
    Slow pages are analyzed using the Pingdom web based tool on a monthly basis.

  • Functionality:
    Functionality of feedback form and search are tested manually on a weekly basis.
  • Broken Links:
    Broken links are checked through the chrome browser extension ‘Dr. Link Check’, ‘W3C Link Checker’ & ‘Xenu’ on quarterly basis.

  • Traffic Analysis:
    Website usage statistics and traffic is monitored on a monthly basis through Webstat service.
  • Feedback:
    Feedback is received on the website through the feedback form. Website of the National Institute of technology Srinagar receives about 2 feedback each day.

    1. The feedback received through the ‘feedback form’ is managed at the CMS level. 

    2. On submission of feedback the user first gets an automated response.

    3. Spam mails are deleted. Action taken mail/generic reply/thank you mail etc. has been sent to the users as     per the need.


Contingency Management Plan.


  • Defacement Protection Policy:

    1. Website is audited against Security & Performance. 

    2. Any application level modification on the website implies re-audit.

    3. All the server configuration and logs are monitored timely.

    4. Only System administrators’ users are allowed to access the servers for doing administration and configuration tasks.

    5. Contents are updated through a secured CMS.
  • Defacement:

    As soon as the National Institute of Technology, website Server Administrator gets the information regarding the defacement, S/he takes the following steps. 


    1. According to the degree of defacement, the site is stopped or continued partially. 

    2. Log files are analyzed to troubleshoot the source of defacement and blocking of the service.

    3. Type of the defacement is analyzed and fixed.


    4. The Portal Service is started from the DR site in case of complete loss of data or during long downtime.

    5. Log files are given to the security division for analysis.

    6. Based on security recommendation, all vulnerability is fixed and the application is re-audited.

    7. The affected/corrupted content and the site are restored from the backup. According to Help Desk, S/He heads the dedicated team of Help Desk personnel.
        In case of any eventuality of defacement, the person who detects the defacement informs Help Desk, who in turn informs Data Centre about it.

Security Policy.


 

1. Website has been placed in protected zones with implementation of firewalls and IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and high availability solutions.

2. Website was audited for known application level vulnerabilities before the launch and all the known vulnerabilities were addressed.

3. All the development work is done on a separate development environment and is well tested on the staging server before updating it on the production server.

4. The content contributed through the content management system is authenticated and is not published on the production server directly. Any content contributed has to go through the moderation process to the final publishing to the production server.

4. All newly released system software patches; bug fixes and upgrades shall are expediently and regularly reviewed and installed on the web server.
